Penn Highlands Mon Valley to Participate in Prescription Drug Take Back Day
Mark your calendar for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day at Penn Highlands Mon Valley – Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM in front of the Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center.
Penn Highlands Mon Valley Pharmacy staff and the Carroll Township Police Department are teaming up to collect prescription and over-the-counter drugs, medications and ointments that are no longer being used or expired.
“Everyone is encouraged to look through their medicine cabinets and closets for medications they no longer take – both prescription and over-the-counter-drugs,” said Peggy Brown, PharmD., BCPS, Director of Pharmacy for Penn Highlands Mon Valley. “This event helps our community dispose of these items safely at the hospital and keeps them out of the wrong hands.”
Before disposing of the medications, all personal information should be removed or blacked out. Liquid products and creams in containers with secured lids are accepted; however, sharps and syringes are not accepted due to the potential exposure to blood-borne diseases.
National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is a semi-annual event that is a convenient and safe way for residents to remove unused medications from their homes.
