New Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Russell Cameron has been named chief medical officer at Penn Highlands, according to John Sutika, president of PH DuBois.
Cameron will work with hospital administration and physicians in regard to the quality of patient care, protocols and other issues in addition to his role as chief medical informatics officer.
Cameron has been at PH DuBois since August 1999. He started as a staff physician in the Emergency Department, and in 2004, he became its medical director.
In 2012, Cameron took a newly created position of medical director of the Informatics Department at PH DuBois where he oversees the use of technology at the hospital from a physician’s standpoint for medical records, care and orders.
He also continues to provide coverage in the PH DuBois Emergency Department and in other Penn Highlands Healthcare Emergency Departments as needed.
“Due to Dr. Cameron’s exceptional work ethic, experience as a practicing physician, dedication to Informatics and his active medical staff participation, Dr. Cameron has been an invaluable asset to Penn Highlands DuBois and to the success of the Penn Highlands Healthcare system,” Sutika said. “We congratulate him on this promotion.”

Cameron received his bachelor’s degree in pre-medicine from Juniata College in Huntingdon. He received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and did his residency in emergency medicine at St. Vincent Medical Center/The Toledo Hospital in Ohio.
Cameron started his career as an emergency department staff physician, director of Pre-Hospital Emergency Medical Services and EMT course director at United States Air Force Medical Center Wright-Patterson, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.
He also worked as an emergency department staff physician and medical director of Corporate Health Services at Clinton Memorial Hospital, Wilmington, Ohio.
He is board certified in emergency medicine. He is also a member of the national and Pennsylvania chapters of the American College of Emergency Physicians.
A native of Ebensburg, he and his wife, Robin, owner of The Meadows Original Frozen Custard, live in DuBois. They have two children, Jessica and Christopher.
