Dr. Landreneau Welcomed to The Lung Center
Penn Highlands Healthcare is pleased to welcome world-renowned lung surgeon, Rodney J. Landreneau, MD, to the staff of The Lung Center. Landreneau is a board certified thoracic surgeon and has spent more than 25 years serving patients in Western Pennsylvania.
Landreneau will now see patients along-side pulmonologists Sandeep Bansal, MD, and Rajesh Rao, MD, as part of The Lung Center of Penn Highlands DuBois. He will also work closely in the operating room with DuBois cardiothoracic surgeon, A. Hadi Hakki, MD, of The Heart Center of Penn Highlands DuBois.
Landreneau has extensive experience in open and minimally invasive thoracic surgery procedures, as well as thoracic surgical oncology. Interests also include minimally invasive lung cancer and esophageal surgery, mesothelioma, diseases of the chest cavity, esophageal diseases, tumors of the lung and esophagus, esophageal achalasia, gastroesophageal reflux, esophageal diverticulum, esophageal stenosis, myasthenia gravis, interstitial lung disease and other diseases of the lungs. He also includes endobronchial laser, stent, brachytherapy management and lung cancer molecular biology among his clinical interests.

Landreneau received his medical degree from Louisiana State University, School of Medicine, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He completed a general surgery residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas. He also completed a thoracic surgery residency at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Landreneau’s extensive career in thoracic and oncology surgery has included directorships of prestigious esophageal and lung institutes throughout the United States. Considered the leading lung surgeon in western Pennsylvania by many of his colleagues, Landreneau gained prominence locally as the head of the thoracic surgery section at the Univeristy of Pittsburgh in 1990. With more than 25 years serving western Pennsylvania, Landreneau will now bring his skill and expertise to the staff Penn Highlands Healthcare.
“Our goal is to align my expertise with the skilled physicians in The Lung Center and The Heart Center to serve residents throughout the Penn Highlands service area,” Landreneau said. “I admire what Penn Highlands has done to establish themselves as a local leader of lung and heart services and look forward to working more closely with Drs. Bansal, Rao and Hakki in DuBois.”
Landreneau is a member of many professional organizations dedicated to the prevention and treatment of esophageal and lung disorders including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons. He is also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Pennsylvania Medical Society.
He has been named on the list of Pittsburgh’s top doctors for several decades and has also won many awards for his dedication to his patients and his profession. Committed to education, prevention and treatment of these diseases, Landreneau has served as a director and/or board member of many important patient-centered organizations.
